29 Nov 06 - Nicol David Celebrates World Open Triumph and 10th O3 Success!
Only 13 months after joining the Prince team, squash star Nicol David is celebrating her tenth title triumph with the brand's revolutionary O3 Tour racquet after winning her second World Open title in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In what turned out to be the longest Women's World Open final on record, David held off a determined challenge by Australia's Natalie Grinham to beat the three-times Commonwealth Games gold medallist 1-9, 9-7, 3-9, 9-5, 9-2 at the Ulster Hall to extend her winning run to 33 matches!
It was less than two weeks after first adopting the O3 Tour that the Malaysian started her sensational title run, winning the prestigious British Open crown for the first time in October last year.
By the end of 2005, David had become World Open champion for the first time – and was rewarded in January by reaching No1 in the WISPA World Rankings.
After winning her fifth Asian Championship title in February, Nicol David began an incredible title run on the WISPA World Tour which included the Qatar Airways Challenge, the Malaysian Open, Penang Open, the British Open and the Hong Kong Open before marking her 10th O3 success with the greatest prize of all – the World Open.
"Incredibly, Nicol David is improving all the time – and has now firmly established herself at the top of the women's game as the player to beat," said Prince Sports' International Player Promotions Manager Andy Bunting.
"Her remarkable success in Belfast, in one of the most memorable finals ever seen, marks Nicol David out as a true champion."
Prince's new O3 breakthrough is the first significant development in racquet technology since the late eighties when racquets changed from wood to graphite. The O3-engineered racquets provide a large sweet spot in a manoeuvrable and aerodynamic frame. Prince re-engineered traditional pin-sized string holes into giant O-Ports, providing total string freedom for a livelier response across the entire string bed. This expands the conventional sweet spot in racquets by up to 54%, turning it into a Sweet Zone!
Prince Sports, Inc. , based in New Jersey, USA, is a recognised leader in game-improvement technologies and engineering-based high-performance sports equipment. In 2005, Prince introduced O3 , another breakthrough that features an expanded sweet spot (up to 54 percent) and increased racquet speed, a combination only possible with O3 technology.
